Spinal Cord Injury

If you or a loved one has suffered a spinal cord injury, contact our lawyers for legal assistance as soon as possible. We will find out if someone is responsible for causing the spinal cord injury, and if so, seek compensation for past and future medical expenses, past and future wages, pain and suffering, disability, and for other damages.

Paralysis

Paralysis is a life-changing condition. It affects almost every aspect of a person's life, from how they perform everyday functions, to how they work and get around, to how they maintain their health and physical well-being.

Quadriplegia/Tetraplegia

If the spinal cord is damaged in the region of the neck, all four limbs will be paralyzed and the victim is said to be quadriplegic or tetraplegic. The chest muscles are also be affected by the damage to the spinal cord in the region of the neck and the accident victim may have difficulty breathing and coughing.

Paraplegia

The most common cause of paraplegia is a spinal cord injury resulting from an auto or motorcycle accident, a sports injury, a diving accident, gunshot or assault, or another type of traumatic accident. If the spinal cord is damaged below the region of the neck, both legs and the abdomen will be paralyzed to some degree and the victim is said to be paraplegic.

Spinal Infection

Spinal infections can occur following back surgery such as spinal fusion, or from bacterial or viral infection. If not treated, the infection can cause devastating spinal cord injury. Infections occurring near the spine can cause abscesses (pockets of pus) to form in the tissue surrounding the spinal cord and nerve root, putting enough pressure on the spinal cord to cause paralysis.

Spinal Cord Rehabilitation

People who suffer a spinal cord injury need a great deal of therapy and help to adapt to a new way of doing everyday things. You will need to learn how to work, get around, and maintain your health in a new way. Often, homes will need to be remodeled to improve accessibility. Patients will also need to learn how to maintain their health and prevent secondary diseases such as pressure ulcers and urinary tract infections.
